Adoptions

Welcome to our adoption page.  We thank you for looking.  Currently we have  a number of cats and kittens ready for adoption.  They are the most adorable furry things on the planet and would love nothing better than to purr for their new best friend.....you.

If you see one that you are interested in please contact us
 for details and information.

Our Adoption Process:
We try hard to match the right human with the right cat.  It is important to us that our human clients end up with the best possible match.

Adoption Application and Selection:  An adoption 'application' needs to be filled out.  This 'application' is used in a number of ways, among them helping to help select the perfect new friend.  Once the a selection has been made and application is complete the application is reviewed.  This is usually done within 24 hours.  Some have been approved the same day.  Making prior contact with us could not hurt.

Adoption Contract:  After that  there is the adoption contract that needs to be filled out.  Our adoption fee is only $60 per animal.  This covers having them spayed/neutered.  All of our cats are also up to date on their shots and cleared for adoption by our contracted vet, some conditionally.  Our human clients will be notified of any health issues we know about prior to any adoption.

My name is Shorty.  I have grown up within the confines of the CIHS property.  I came in as a feral kitten in 2008 and the humans worked hard to help me be a good kitty.  I am curious about everything and like to play but my greatest skill is showing all the new guys the ropes.  I get along with all the other cats and enjoy mentoring them.  Unfortunately I have watched many be adopted before me and I haven't found my forever home yet.  But I'm patient and my time will come.  In the meantime I'm content mentoring the newbies.  But if you're looking for a great, devoted companion I'm up for the job!

Sterling is an exotic looking silver tabby.  She is currently about 3 years old.  She's fixed and current on her shots.  She has striking marking and 'oh so soft' bunny fur.  She is a very sweet and timid kitty and gets along well with the other cats in the big room but would do well by herself.  Sterling is a very smart cat and knows her name.
She is submissive around the other cats and is shy around strangers.  She spends much of the time hiding under her blanket but comes out to greet you and visit.  She likes to be scratched and petted and has an nice little purr box.  She is a quiet little thing and doesn't meow much.  We are sure that the right human can bring her out of her shell at which point she will be just a love.
Everyone that sees her comments on her beauty and markings.  If anyone you knows someone who wants a quiet little companion then Sterling is just waiting to go home.  Please talk to your friends about her.

FAQ:

Q.  I'm coming to visit Catalina.  Could I adopt a cat?

A.  Yes.  If you are short on time please contact us ahead of your visit.  We can e-mail the adoption application/contract ahead of time.  Please bring your own cat carrier.

Q.  Will you meet us at the Long Beach ferry landing?  Can you ship our new cat by air?

A.  Sorry but no to both questions.  We are a small place and do not have the resources to do transactions like that.

Q.  Why would I want to consider adopting an adult cat?
A.  Adult cats are harder to adopt out than kittens as they are missing that "Awwwww, Kitten" look.  However, they are better in the respect that their personalities are well developed so you know what you are getting.  If the human wants a quiet companion or an energetic playmate we can match them better.

Q.  Why should I consider adopting two cats?
A.  Taking care of two cats is not much more work than taking care of one.  Cats are very social animals and they love having the company of their own kind.  Being together gives them a playmate and something to do during the day while you are away.  Besides, you will recieve twice the love back for your efforts.
